A South Korea producer of butane fuel canisters has used North Korea's reclusive leader Kim Jong-un as its advertising character apparently without his consent and modeling fee.

"No explosion in any provocations," read an advertising copy written metaphorically. For a parody ad that appeared on its social media on July 21, the company used the side picture of Kim making a solemn look as if he was staring at a yellow-colored butane fuel camping can in the center.

It's the first time Kim has shown up in any advertisements and commercials in South Korea. The ad is apparently aimed at stressing the safety of products that do not explode.

There is no legal problem using Kim's image or photo for advertising without his consent abroad because parody advertising has been allowed. It could be problematic in South Korea, but Kim is not likely to file a suit with South Korean courts as the two Koreas are still technically at war and bar any unauthorized cross-border communication and contact.
