According to UN report, 35% of women worldwide suffer physical and/or sexual violence committed by their boyfriends and husbands. Every three out of 10 women you see on the street may suffer such violence behind the closed doors.

In the United States alone has over 10 million women and men fall victims of their intimate partner violence every year. An incident happened this week on an Alaska cruise ship is a clear example of these statistics.

Emerald Princess, one of the Princess Cruises ship, left Seattle on Sunday with people who are ready to enjoy their summer vacation. A holiday trip of a married couple from Utah ended tragically. According to the released FBI documents, the husband, Kenneth Manzanares of Santa Clara, Utah, beat his wife to death on Tuesday because she laughed at him. The couple's acquaintance walked into the couple's room and found Kristy Manzanares lying lifelessly in the blood-splattered room. She had a severe head wound and succumbed to the injury. Both Kenneth and Kristy Manzanares are 39 years old.

The startled husband caught off guard by the witness. He then tried to drag and dump his wife's body in the water from the balcony. However, the acquaintance stopped Manzanares and other people chimed in to assist.

After being arrested and searched by FBI, Manzanares said, "My life is over.", according to the court documents. Emerald Princess was diverted to Juneau, Alaska and passengers were able to leave after eight hours of wait. FBI is leading the investigation because the incident happened in the U.S. waters off Alaska.

Manzanares made his first court appearance on Thursday through a video call because the hearing was held in Anchorage, Alaska. He appeared to be crying in the beginning, wearing an orange jumpsuit and shackles. At the end of the hearing, U.S. Magistrate Judge Kevin F. McCoy allowed the venue to change from Anchorage to Juneau where Manzanares is currently held. The preliminary hearing was scheduled to be on August 10 and the bail amount was not set yet.

Kristy Manzanares worked in Summit Sotheby's International Realty in St. George, Utah as an adviser. According to her employer's statement, she was "a dedicated and loving mother who juggled her business schedule to make her children to top priority."
