Despite a Chinese ban on Hallyu (Korean Cultural Wave) in retaliation for a US missile shield, Asia's renowned director and filmmaker Wong Kar-wai has agreed to invest in a South Korean musical play describing the life and love of literary people under Japan's colonial rule over the Korean peninsula.

Block 2 Music, a subsidiary of Wong's film making company Jet Tone, will participate in the production of "Fan Letter" as an investor, South Korean musical playmaker, Live Corp., said in an online statement.

The musical play is set to open in Seoul on November 10. The amount of money involved was not disclosed. Wong, a Hong Kong Second Wave filmmaker, has a huge international fan base for his stylish and unique works such as "Ashes of Time" (1994), "Chungking Express" (1994) and "Fallen Angels (1995)".
