For the first time as a South Korean artist or an artist group, Boy band BTS was ranked 44th in the New York Times' fan map list of "What Music Do Americans Love the Most?".

BTS was listed alongside popular artists such as Rhianna, Justin Bieber and Beyoncé. The American media said it used YouTube's geocoded streaming data to "map the contours of music fandom and culture". "One of K-pop’s most famous boy bands, BTS is especially popular in Hawaii and parts of California," it wrote.

BTS has seen an explosive increase in its fandom at home and abroad, gaining popularity with its trendy music and synchronized choreography backed by good teamwork. The seven-member group became the first South Korean artist group to be awarded Billboard's Top Social Artist award in May.
