Serena Williams and her fiance, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on Friday. Williams, 35, was admitted to the St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach on Wednesday.
Williams' daughter's name was not revealed yet and the tennis queen did not make an official statement to confirm the news. However, her sister Venus Williams told ESPN at the US Open that she is "super excited" and later added, "The words can't describe."
Serena Williams revealed her pregnancy on her Snapchat on April 19 this year with the caption "20 weeks" and her spokesperson confirmed her baby news later that day. Williams was 8 weeks pregnant when she won the Australian Open in January.
There has been outpouring tweets from celebrities, fans, fellow sportsmen, and sportswomen since the news was revealed. Williams' coach, Patrick Mouratoglou tweeted, "I am so happy for you and I feel your emotion", and added, "BTW... I wish you a speedy recovery... we have a lot of work ahead of us." It is unclear at this moment how fast Williams will come back to the court to dominate again.
Many people also have been tweeting about Williams' daughter as a possible future queen of tennis just like her mama. One of the tweeters humorously wrote, "Serena Williams just had a baby girl. They're on the practice court now." Another tweeter topped the comment, "RT if Serena infant daughter is already a better athlete than you."
Serena Williams previously talked about moving to San Francisco after the wedding, but some expect that the move may come sooner than the wedding since the couple has a baby now and may want to settle together faster.
