"A good caddie is more than a mere assistant. He is a guide, a philosopher and a friend," according to a quote by British golfer Henry Longhurst (1909 - 1978) who described the importance of a caddie. But the digital age has changed a traditional perception about caddies.
Golfzon, South Korea's largest supplier of golf simulators, teamed up with Samsung Electronics to release "Gear S3 Golf Edition", a Samsung smartwatch installed with a "Smart Caddie" app that provides real-time information such as maps of golf courses and greens as well as distance.
Smart Caddie provides information on about 60,000 courses around the world and its service is optimized for golfers who wish to know exact distances to a hole, Samsung said Thursday in a statement. The app will provide very accurate course information including the undulation of each green. Matchbox-sized handheld caddie computers are used by many golfers, but they are not so accurate.
Samsung's smartwatch was released in two models -- "Gear S3 Frontier" and "Gear S3 Classic" -- with a price tag of 399,300 won (352 US dollars). Both models are available at "Golping", Golfzon's online shopping mall and other offline outlets.
