South Korea's football supremo apologized for the national team's dismal performance in friendly matches and pledged efforts to put them back into shape by bringing in experienced foreign assistant coaches probably from Europe.

Chung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association (KFA), said the national team would hold friendly matches with Colombia and Serbia in November.

"We are trying to recruit experienced coaches from Europe," he told reporters, expressing "regret" over confusion about a failed attempt to invite former coach Guus Hiddink, who led the national team to the 2002 World Cup semifinals. The association has interviewed foreign assistant and fitness coach candidates.

After clinching a spot at next year's World Cup, South Korea had two friendly matches with Russia and Morocco. Coach Shin Tae-yong has been winless since he took over the helm from Uli Stielike sacked for poor performances. Some fans have urged the football governing body to replace Shin with Hiddink, but the Dutchman was lukewarm saying he wanted a supplementary role.
