U.S. President Donald Trump drew cheerful applause and laughter from South Korean lawmakers when he congratulated the success of Korean female golfers on the LPGA tour.

"Korean golfers are some of the best on earth," Trump said in a speech at South Korea's parliament, singling out Park Sung-hyun, the LPGA super rookie who won the U.S. Women's Open held at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, and rose to the world's top post in global rankings.

"And it just happened to be won by a great Korean golfer," Trump said.

The 24-year-old who has already clinched the LPGA rookie of the year is also on the top of LPGA's 2017 season money list with an accumulated prize money of 2,1 million US dollars.

Loud applause exploded as Trump expressed amazement. "Now that's something. That's really something," he said, congratulating other South Korean golfers on their successful performance: "The top four golfers, 1, 2, 3, 4, the top four were from Korea. Congratulations. Congratulations."
