Singer IU is officially confirmed to star in "My Ahjussi" (working title), a cable TV drama written by a popular scenarist who created recent hit drama "Another Miss Oh".
TVN, a South Korean cable TV company, said Monday that the 24-year-old has been confirmed as one of the main roles in the upcoming drama. Along with IU, veteran actors such as Lee Sun-gyun, Na Moon-hee and Oh Dal-soo will be taking the main roles, the drama creators said.
The drama which will depict a love story between a young employee and a middle-aged constructor has been under a barrage of criticism at its planning stage last week by feminism-centered online communities for beautifying surreal love between a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s.
However, after the drama's lineup of actors and actresses are revealed, many K-pop fans have expressed anticipation toward "My Ahjussi" as its director Kim Won-seok is the creator of hit dramas -- "Misaeng" and "Signal" -- while its scenarist Park Hae-young has written the script for "Another Miss Oh", a popular cable TV hit drama aired in 2016.
