Jim Lovell, the 89-year-old commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission in 1970 which had to return to earth without touching down on the moon due to an oxygen tank explosion, has finally fulfilled his dream, using virtual reality technology.

LG Electronics said on Tuesday that the space mission commander was able to have a moonwalk by wearing "Daydream", Google's VR headset fitted with LG's latest smartphone V30.

"We wanted to provide users a chance to realize their long-held dreams and explore new worlds with the powerful virtual reality experience of the V30," Kim Su-young,  the marketing head for LG's mobile communications business, said in a statement.

Helped by VR and other technologies, people can now visit the place of dreams which does not necessarily have to be an actual one. VR technologies are now widely used in rehabilitating disabled patients and athletes who cannot move. VR training is also used for military training without the danger of being wounded in an accident.
