Girl band Red Velvet tops Billboard's Albums Chart ahead of BTS

South Korea's five-member girl band Red Velvet topped Billboard's World Albums Chart for the first week of December with its latest album "Perfect Velvet" ahead of BTS, the hottest K-pop idol band.

Billboard charts, which tabulates the relative weekly popularity of singles and albums, has placed the group's latest album in the first place in its World Albums Chart. Perfect Velvet, bearing a B-rated horror film concept, was released on November 17.

BTS was placed second in the chart with its album "Love Yourself: Her", released in September. Both Red Velvet and BTS have gained popularity abroad this year with multiple hit songs scoring millions of view counts on YouTube.
