A new supernote, which has been never been reported to Interpol, was found for the first time in South Korea, prompting government and financial experts to open an arduous investigation due to its very high quality.

KEB Hana Bank, a Seoul-based commercial bank which provides foreign exchange and other services, said Wednesday that a team of counterfeit experts discovered supernotes at the request of branch officials last month.

A superdollar, also known as a supernote, is a very high-quality counterfeit one hundred-dollar bill. Many supernotes can be detected with today's technology, but new and more sophisticated supernotes have been produced.

The bills marked 2006 were different from other supernotes in printing and material and used a very high level of technology and special ink, the bank said, adding related information would be sent to financial authorities and security authorities.

The bank said the new supernote had never been reported to Interpol. Supernotes produced by various groups have been in worldwide circulation. Washington believes the cash-strapped North is suspected of having passed off many superbills in various countries.
