SEOUL, Jan. 09 (Aju News) --  South Korea's top carmaker Hyundai Motor Hyundai has disclosed its business partnership with Nvidia, an American graphics chipmaker, to acquire technologies related to self-driving vehicles.

At the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Vice President Chung Eui-sun confirmed that Hyundai has forged a strategic partnership with Nvidia when the American company showcased Xavier, a powerful new system on chip (SoC).

The new SoC is capable of processing full autonomous driving data through sensors such as radar, cameras, ultrasonic monitors and Lidar (light detection and ranging). Lidar is a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges to the Earth.

The American company said it would provide core technology and hardware to Aurora Innovation to build an autonomous vehicle compute platform. Aurora, an autonomous vehicle startup, forged a partnership with Aurora last week to select an optimal smart city connected through the internet of things for the testing of self-driving and other technologies.
