SEOUL, Jan. 17 (Aju News) -- Idol band CNBLUE's Jung Yong-hwa has suspended his post-graduate work after a police investigation into allegations that the singer was illegally allowed to enter a doctoral program, his agency said Wednesday.

FNC Entertainment said in a statement that the 28-year-old has not done anything wrong, responding to news reports that he got admission to the Department of Applied Arts at Kyunghee University's post-graduate school in Seoul in 2016 without taking a proper interview.

The agency insisted Jung made no illegal activities because he was able to get permission from school authorities through additional recruitment because the number of applicants did not meet the quorum at that time.

"There's no reason to take such illegal actions because celebrities live on reputations," FNC said, adding that the agency submitted an application form and contacted faculty members on Jung's behalf because he had been repeatedly offered by Kyunghee University to come like many other artists.

Jung suspended his school work after he was questioned by police over the scandal, the agency said.

The singer, who is to hold a two-day concert this weekend, uploaded a handwritten letter onto his Instagram and apologized for causing a fuss because of his fault. "I sincerely bow to apologize," Jung said in the letter, adding that he would "accept all criticism pointed towards him with all his heart".
