SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Aju News) -- Big Hit Entertainment, the agency of world-popular K-pop band BTS forged an alliance Wednesday with two top industry leaders to kick-start a joint music service platform packed with future technologies, setting a milestone in South Korea's saturated and competitive K-pop market,

The joint project involves Big Hit Entertainment, SK Telecom, South Korea's largest mobile carrier, and two entertainment powerhouses, SM and JYP. The new music platform will be launched later this year.

SK Telecom said the heads of the entertainment companies agreed to provide differentiated services using new technologies such as AI and blockchain through a new music platform.

By analyzing personal data with AI, the platform will provide a tailored contents service. SK Telecom will consider integrating the music service into its AI-based assistant speaker and infotainment system for cars. Blockchain technology will be applied to protect licenses and maintain the transparency of transactions.

SK Telecom will handle the distribution of digital music and actual albums of the three entertainment companies, while the company's subsidiary, iriver, will handle the B2B (business to business) distribution of music and provide contents to wholesalers and retailers online and offline.

Currently, South Korea has five major online music services operated by technology companies and contents creators such as CJ E&M. SK Telecom sold Melon, the country's largest online music service, to Kakao, a web service giant, in 2016.
