SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Aju News) -- South Korea's minor carmaker SsangYong Motor disclosed a contract Monday on assembly production of its G4 Rexton sport utility vehicle in India in the second half of this year at a plant run by Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra.

SsangYong said the contract expires on December 31, 2023. The G4 Rexton powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine would be produced at Mahindra's plant at Chakan.

Mahindra, which acquired the South Korean company in March 2011, showcased the G4 Rexton with Mahindra badging at the Auto Expo this month.
The G4 is a modified version of SsangYong's flagship SUV.

SsangYong made a turnaround in 2016 for the first time under Mahindra, helped by robust sales of its Tivoli compact and Korando C mid-size SUVs. In 2017, however, the company sold 143,685 vehicles, down 7.7 percent from 155,754 a year ago.
