SEOUL -- Four workers died Friday when a working cage fell to the ground from the 55th floor of a 101-story seaside tower and two connected high-rise residential buildings for shopping and residence, which are under construction in the southern port city of Busan.

Three workers inside one of the four safe working cages were installing glass windows to the exterior wall of the tower, according to fire authorities. The falling debris killed one worker on the ground and injured another.

Posco ENC, the builder of the tower, said that the accident might have been caused by damaged bolts used to fix the cage, which was 1.2 meters wide and 40 meters long. Police launched an investigation to find out whether workers violated safety rules.

Posco ENC has been building the tower between two 85-story residential buildings near the Haeundae beach as a new landmark in Busan.
