SEOUL -- The world's first 3D cinema LED screen developed by Samsung Electronics has been installed at a Swiss theater, providing vivid color and a good audio system to moviegoers without using a traditional projector.

Samsung said the 3D LED screen made its global debut at Arena Cinemas' Silhcity theater in Zurich. The 10.3 meters wide LED screen provides ultra-sharp 4K resolution, about 10 times brighter than that of standard projector screens, and consistent picture quality.

Introduced first in July 2017, Samsung's LED screen has been installed in theaters in Seoul, Busan and Shanghai. The Swiss theater adopted Samsung's 3D LED screen for the first time in the world.

The LED screen is backed by powerful speaker technologies from the subsidiary of US-based Harman International, a major connected technology and lifestyle audio solution company. Samsung acquired Harman last year.

Samsung has been confident of global adoption, describing its technology as a game changer in the global screen market. It said the screen in Switzerland would make projection-based cinema technology "a thing of the past" as it maintains consistent brightness for immaculate delivery of subtitle text, images and minor visual details for viewers.

"Unlike standard 3D cinemas, the Samsung Cinema LED screen provides consistent picture quality across an entire theater, ensuring a uniform, immersive viewing experience for viewers in every seat," Samsung said in a statement.

"We hope that more movie-goers can experience the Cinema LED screen firsthand as we look to partner with more theaters around the world," Kim Seog-gi, executive vice president of Samsung's visual display business, was quoted as saying.
