SEOUL -- Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, a leading power equipment maker, has secured a foothold in Vietnam's wind farm market following the successful opening of South Korea's first offshore power plant complex.

Doosan Heavy said Friday that it has signed a deal with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to launch a pilot offshore wind power project. Doosan Heavy will supply energy storage systems and equipment for the construction of a three-megawatt wind power plant at a place acquired by the Vietnamese state-run power monopoly.

Financial terms were not disclosed. It would be Doosan Heavy's first participation in the construction of wind power facilities abroad. The company provided turbine generators for an offshore wind farm that opened off the southern resort island of Jeju in November last year.

In Vietnam, Doosan Heavy said it has forged a separate deal with CC1, a Vietnamese builder involved in a wind power project in Binh Thuan.

"This achievement in Vietnam will provide an important turning point for the new renewable energy business of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction," Doosan Heavy CEO Park Gee-won said in a statement. As part of a business delegation, he accompanied President Moon Jae-in during his state visit to Vietnam.
