SEOUL -- South Korea's top telecom company, KT Corp., will allow the entertainment wing of Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong Group to visualize popular web cartoons published by KTOON, a KT platform.
KT said Friday that the copyrights agreement with Lan Kwai Fong showed the "extensibility" of the added value of KTOON's webcomics, vowing to produce contents loved by international fans. For its initial work, the Hong Kong-based company would visualize KTOON's five web cartoons.
Helped by active support from its parent group, KTOON has become one of South Korea's three largest web-cartoon platforms. KT has signed copyrights contracts with Chinese partners. South Korean web cartoons have gained international recognition, especially among Chinese and Japanese fans.
KTOON, which produces webcomics and novels, is one of the entertainment platforms created by KT, which has diversified its business portfolio to develop advanced technologies related to autonomous driving, internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence and a fifth-generation (5G) mobile network.
