SEOUL -- LG Electronics has made a bold move to attract cost-sensitive consumers by pricing its new G7 ThinQ smartphone series cheaper than rivals, veering off the trend of highly priced premium smartphones.
G7 will carry a price tag of 898,700 won (830 US dollars) and G7 ThinQ Plus, the larger display version, will be priced at 976,800 won. The price of G7 ThinQ is about 60,000 won cheaper than that of Samsung's Galaxy S9 and about 100,000 won cheaper than Apple's iPhone 8.
LG's mobile communications division head Hwang Jeong-hwan said last week that his company wishes to sell more smartphones by leaving small margins. LG will start receiving pre-orders for G7 on Thursday until its official release on May 18.
