SEOUL -- Hollywood action film star Ryan Reynolds, known for his role in Deadpool, a 2016 superhero movie, made a surprise appearance as a special guest at South Korea's popular TV music show, wearing a unicorn mask instead of his trademark "Deadpool" mask.

King of Masked Singer is a TV show in which celebrities wearing masks to hide identities compete in a tournament in front of a panel of special judges from the entertainment community and about 100 selected ordinary judges.

On Sunday, a special guest wearing a unicorn mask performed "Tomorrow" from Annie, a 1982 movie. Unaware that the hidden celebrity is Reynolds, many complimented the unicorn with his English pronunciation and one said jokingly that he must be US president Donald Trump.

When Reynolds took off his mask after his performance, many were shocked by the unexpected appearance of the Hollywood star.

"I'm so sorry about that song," Reynolds said, joking that because he was so nervous that he was wearing an adult diaper. He confessed that it was the first time he got on stage to sing in front of people. "I'm in the top 5 worst singers in the universe," he said.

"This mask was much easier to wear than the Deadpool mask. This is a breeze. I'm gonna take this home," Reynolds said as the audience broke into rapturous applause. "To the King of Masked Singer's viewers, I'm so happy to be here, this was the thrill of my lifetime."

Reynolds, a 41-year-old Canadian actor, said that even his wife did not know about his appearance in the program, which was taped after he visited Seoul on May 1 to promote Deadpool 2. Participants in the show should pledge themselves to secrecy.
