SEOUL -- The research unit of South Korea's largest search portal Naver forged an alliance with Mando Corp., a leading domestic auto parts maker, to jointly develop self-driving technologies.
Naver Labs said Friday it would share its artificial intelligence and self-driving software technologies with Mando, a Halla Group unit, which produces steering, brake and suspension parts as well as radar and camera sensors for vehicles.
Naver Labs, which has already secured government approval to test self-driving cars, promised to expand ties with other tech firms to acquire core technology related to autonomous driving. In June last year, Naver acquired a France-based Xerox Research Center Europe (XRCE) specializing in AI, machine learning and other technologies.
