SEOUL -- Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, a key contractor in South Korea's nuclear power industry, has forged a business partnership with SAP, a multinational software company, to develop digital solutions for its power equipment and desalination businesses.

Doosan Heavy, a Doosan Group subsidiary, said Thursday that a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two companies during a business technology event hosted by SAP and ASUG this week in Orlando, Florida.

Doosan Heavy said it would develop digital operation solutions and discover new business models by combining its capacity and operation know-how with SAP's IT platform technology.

Cooperation between the two companies has already has underway to develop a solution for efficient power plant operation and prevent faults by utilizing SAP's "Leonardo" platform, a guided, design-led approach to digital transformation. Doosan said the deal with SAP would be a driving force in applying digital solutions in power generation services.

Doosan Heavy builds nuclear power plants, thermal power stations, turbines and generators and desalination plants. Its profit structure has deteriorated since President Moon Jae-in pushed for the policy of phasing out power plants using fossil fuel to accelerate the use of clean and renewable energy.
