SEOUL -- South Korea's LG Electronics has brought a traditional folding screen art to life using its latest display technology to reproduce old art pieces into digital artworks.

Traditional folding screens, known as "Byeongpoong" in Korean, are normally eight-fold with paintings attached to each face. The folding screens have long been used for decorations and in religious ceremonies at home and Buddhist temples.

LG said in a statement that it has displayed the works of 19th-century Joseon Dynasty artists on a digital folding screen which is two meters (78 inches) tall and nine meters wide, at Dongdaemun Design Plaza, an art center near central Seoul, from last Thursday.

The screen was created with eight pieces of Digital Signage, LG's large display panel tailored to screen advertisements. "The Digital Signage, combined with artworks, will provide visitors with a new overwhelming sensation," an LG official was quoted as saying.

LG said a total of 56 pieces from famous 19th-century artists such as Jang Seung-eop and his disciples Jo Seok-jin and An Jung-sik, would be displayed.
