Hyundai's logistics wing establishes research center to develop car-sharing technology

SEOUL -- Hyundai Glovis, the logistics wing of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, has established an integrated logistics research center in an effort to find new growth engines such as car-sharing and survive in the rapidly changing global market.

The logistics company said in a statement on Tuesday that the new research center would focus on developing technologies and new strategies for car-sharing business as the paradigm of the car market is shifting from production to service.

Hyundai Glovis will utilize the center to analyze the latest trends in shipping, distribution and future technologies and to develop new technologies. It plans to increase the number of logistics experts from 30 to 80 by 2020. 
 
The company said it would develop infrastructure for eco-friendly cars and technologies related to autonomous trucks. Big data will be used to improve and optimize smart logistics and cargo storage.
