SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics posted an estimated 5.19 percent increase in its second-quarter operating profit as its microchip business continued to show a good performance.
In its earnings guidance report, the world's largest smartphone maker put its second-quarter operating profit at 14.8 trillion won ($13.2 billion), compared with 14.07 trillion won a year earlier. Samsung's first-quarter operating profit hit a record high of 15.64 trillion won.
Sales in the April-June period were down 4.92 percent on-year to 58 trillion won. The company will release its finalized earnings report later this month.
