SEOUL -- Jailed ex-president Park Geun-hye received an extra eight-year prison term Friday to stay in jail for a total of 32 years after a court found her guilty of taking secret money from the government's spy agency and intervening in elections.

The court in Seoul ordered a forfeit of 3.3 billion won ($2.9 million) from Park, who was already sentenced to 24 years in prison for causing a state crisis by abusing power and controlling government affairs arbitrarily for her personal interests.

Park, 66, was indicted in January on charges that include bribery, embezzlement and the loss of state funds for illegally taking 3.5 billion won from the National Intelligence Service between May 2013 and July 2016. She was accused of spending NIS money on maintenance of her private residence, medical treatment and incentives for aides.

In Friday's trial, the ex-president was also convicted of interfering with the nomination of former ruling party candidates for general elections in 2016.  However, the court acquitted Park of bribery charges, ruling she did not receive NIS money in return for any favors.
