SEOUL -- Naver Labs, the AI wing of South Korea's top web portal, forged an alliance with a wheel parts maker to produce "Aircart", a robot handcart which can help people carry heavy objects with ease.

Naver Labs said in a statement on Monday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Triopines, which provides wheel parts to global carmakers such as Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Aircart, introduced in October last year, detects the movements of operators with sensors installed in its handle. The robot cart was tested at a large bookstore franchise in the southern port city of Busan. Triopines is in charge of production and marketing.

Naver Laps said that the smart cart could be used at libraries, hospitals. "We expect Aircart to be utilized in various fields such as airports, hospitals and libraries," a Naver Labs official was quoted as saying.
