SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics rolled out two different "Galaxy Tab" tablet PCs in a double-track strategy to attract picky consumers in the stagnant global market dominated by U.S. rival Apple.

The world's top smartphone maker said Thursday that it has introduced "Galaxy Tab S4", a premium 10.5-inch tablet, and "Galaxy TabA 10.5", an entry-level tablet with the same display size as Tab S4.  The two models had different features and abilities to match the needs of consumers.

The tablet PC market has seen a steady decline for more than four years and sales have been stagnant as consumers prefer smartphones with big screens to watch videos or carry out multitasking to tablet PCs. In the global tablet PC market, Apple controls 28.8 percent, compared to Samsung's 16.7 percent, according to Statistica, a New York-based market research firm.

"At Samsung, we believe tablets play an increasingly important role in making lives easier and improving the mobile experience for everyone,” Samsung CEO Koh Dong-jin said in a statement.

Samsung said Tab S4 is "fit for any job or video". It is armed with an ultra-high definition Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) display and can carry out multi-tasking when connected to a keyboard dock or other monitors. A large-sized 7,300mAh battery provides up to 16 hours of continuous video play. Samsung's mobile security platform protects critical data.

Unlike Tab S4 targeting tech-savvy hardcore users, Tab A with a full high-definition LCD display and an entry-level processor is recommended for inexperienced users. The budget tablet also has a special mode for kids, allowing parents to block in-app purchases and choose user interfaces according to ages.

Prices and the release date were not disclosed.
