SEOUL -- K-pop band BTS, which received an award from YouTube for garnering more than 10 million subscribers on its own media channel, was listed among the world's 20 most popular artists on the video-sharing social media.
YouTube's data sheet released on Friday showed that videos uploaded by the seven-member group have been watched more than 2.5 billion times since BTS opened its YouTube channel, BANGTANTV, in 2012.
According to YouTube, 94 percent of the channel's total view count was watched by foreign fans. American fans recorded the highest view count with 283 million hits, followed by Vietnamese fans with 204 million.
BTS built up its international fandom by using its YouTube channel as a communication tool. The boys upload music videos and personal videos such as dance practices and self-interviews while sincerely leaving replies on YouTube comments and other social media posts.
