SEOUL -- Two builders joined a team of South Korean firms led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) which are in competition with foreign firms to participated in nuclear power projects in the Czech Republic and Poland.

The state operator of nuclear power plants said Friday that Daewoo E&C and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction were selected as construction partners for the "Team Korea" involving KHNP, KEPCO E&C and KEPCO NF, a nuclear fuel design and fabrication company.

KHNP and Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), a state utility company which produces home-made nuclear reactors, are now locked in the race with France, China and Russia to win a Saudi contract.

Saudi Arabia has selected five countries as preferred bidders for a multi-billion-dollar project to build two nuclear power plants. Construction will begin next year. South Korea has tried to export its nuclear technology and home-made reactors since it secured a $20 billion contract in 2009 to build four reactors in the United Arab Emirates.
