SEOUL -- Ahead of his summit with President Moon Jae-in, Indonesian President Joko Widodo urged South Korea's CJ group to invest more in Indonesia's manufacturing industry especially in cultural and biological resource fields.
The group said that Widodo's demand came at talks Monday with CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik at a hotel in Seoul. The Indonesian leader arrived in Seoul Sunday on a three-day state visit. At their meeting in Jakarta in November, Moon and Widodo agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a special strategic partnership.
Sohn said his group would make steady investments and diversify its business in Indonesia by sharing its technology and strength in the fields of manufacturing, entertainment, culture and services. CJ has been the key distributor of K-pop contents in Asia, making local-language films in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam
The CJ group is involved in food and food services, biotechnology, entertainment, home shopping and logistics. Its total investment in Indonesia stood at $1.3 billion.
