SEOUL -- Ground X, a blockchain subsidiary of South Korea's top message-app operator Kakao, opened a website for its platform called "Klaytn", which is in test operation ahead of its official debut.

Klaytn is a "service-centric" blockchain platform that would provide an easy development environment and friendly end-user experience, Groud X said in its website slogan. The platform would be showcased at a blockchain conference in San Francisco this month.

"It is built upon solid reliability and significant stability with substantial service development for mass adoption," the company said, adding the platform allows real-world applications of large scale to be produced right away so that end-users can use services without much expertise in blockchain or cryptocurrency.

Kakao established Ground X in Japan in March in an effort to develop a stable blockchain platform that would be open to domestic and foreign firms. Ground X has promised to develop an internationally viable platform through cooperation with other tech firms.

Ground X said Klaytn would increase compatibility for existing data tools and provide blockchain-specialized tools to facilitate service development experience. The company has focused on the convenience of companies and users.

Kakao has seen its dramatic growth to become one of the most coveted stocks at home, but it has been cautious in jumping into the blockchain industry. Naver's smartphone messenger app service LINE, based in Japan, has said that it would launch a variety of "dApp" services this year by combining blockchain with its platform.
