SEOUL -- Samsung Display, a South Korean flat-panel maker, has developed a 15.6-inch ultra-high definition (UHD) organic light emitting diode (OLED) display for laptops for the first time in the world. The display is ideal for gaming, graphic design and enjoying video content.
Samsung said in a statement Wednesday that mass production of its new UHD OLED laptop display would begin next month. It is lighter and less power-consuming than previous LCD displays.
Global tech companies such as Dell and Razor, an American gaming hardware company, have used OLED panels in their 13-inch UHD high-end gaming laptops and other laptops with lower screen resolutions. With the production of 15.6-inch UHD OLED displays for laptops, Samsung targets the global premium laptop display market
OLED displays have higher contrast and a wider range of color than LCD displays. The characteristics of OLED panels make them suited for viewing in bright environments such as photo studios with many lights.
