SEOUL -- South Korea's presidential office expressed regret over no deal in the second summit between U.S. and North Korean leaders in Vietnam, saying President Moon Jae-in's role and responsibility got bigger as a peace broker.

"We feel sorry that President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un have not reached a full agreement at their summit today," presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said in a statement. "President Trump appeared to have wanted a big deal through this meeting."

"However, it appears to be clear that they have made more meaningful progress than ever before," the spokesman said, adding U.S. and North Korean leaders get to understand better.

Trump's persistent commitment to dialogue and his optimistic views brightened the outlook for another meeting, the spokesman said, pointing to Trump's remarks about sanctions relief.
