SEOUL -- As early as this year, the international airport in Incheon, South Korea's main gateway, will introduce the unmanned biometric authentication of passengers using international flights, encouraged by the almost seamless operation of fingerprint and palm vein scanners at domestic airports.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport proposed the installment of scanners for biometric authentication at the Incheon airport by the end of this year if possible. Outbound passengers can go through quick security clearance at designated gates without showing their identification cards if they store biometric data in advance.
In December last year, 14 domestic airports began using fingerprint and palm vein scanners for the authentication of passengers using domestic flights. The new system has the effect of strengthening aviation security and preventing human errors.
