SEOUL --  Jung Joon-young, a singer-songwriter, cut short his overseas trip for shooting to face a criminal investigation on charges of sharing illegally filmed sex video files with others, including BIGBANG member Seungri, in the chat room of a smartphone messenger app.

Jung, 30, is the first entertainer to be investigated in a probe into a sex scandal involving Seungri, who is suspected of having arranged escort services for foreign investors in 2015. Police are looking into illegal video content being shared on Seungri's chat rooms.

Jung's agency, MAKEUS Entertainment, said in a statement Tuesday that the singer had canceled all his shooting schedules for a cable TV program in the United States to face an investigation. "We are aware of the seriousness of the case," the agency said, apologizing for causing trouble "with a shameful thing."

The singer was expelled from the KBS TV variety show "2 Days & 1 Night" after a broadcaster released an edited version of Seungri's smartphone messenger chat log that showed Jung sharing a sex video file. The broadcaster reported that Jung had shared sex videos at other chat rooms.

There were other entertainers who shared video files, but their names were not disclosed. Illegal distribution and filming of unauthorized sex videos provide for a maximum jail term of five years or a fine of 30 million won ($26,560).

Jung once suspended his public activity for months in 2016 when an ex-girlfriend accused him of filming her secretly during their sexual activities. The ex-girlfriend dropped her suit after police failed to find any clear evidence that she was recorded without prior consent.
