SEOUL -- As part of efforts to broaden its business scope in the 5G era, South Korea's top telecom company KT has agreed to provide content to the domestic operator of virtual reality experience zones which are gaining popularity from young people.

KT said that 3D Factory, a VR experience zone franchise, would be allowed to use content the telecom company has developed through partnership with VR game companies. KT opened two VR theme parks called VRIGHT in Seoul last year. VR theme parks host a range of immersive activities for visitors.

In October last year, KT agreed with a Malaysian investment company to promote the construction of a VR theme park in a Legoland center in the main southern development corridor in Johor, Malaysia. It would be KT's first VR theme park project abroad.

In February this year, KT agreed with the operator of Seoul Land, an old amusement park in Seoul, into the world's first 5G-based modern fun park installed with a bunch of intelligent cameras as well as VR and mixed reality rides to provide differentiated services.

Experts predict the 5G era will bring a dramatic change to daily life. Technology and telecom companies are trying hard to apply 5G technologies to connected car technologies, autonomous driving, the development of VR content and other sectors.
