SEOUL -- Hancom GMD, a unit of South Korea's comprehensive IT service group Hancom, has won a contract to provide mobile device forensic solutions to two British investigative bodies. Mobile device forensics is a branch of digital forensics relating to recovery of digital evidence or data from a mobile device under forensically sound conditions.

Hancom GMD said it would offer optimized mobile forensic solutions for extraction and analysis of digital data on mobile devices to the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit and Leicestershire Police in Britain.

"We are honored to enter the British market with advanced investigation techniques and win the recognition of our technology," a Hancom GMD official said. "We will constantly strengthen our sales and marketing activities to expand forensic solutions throughout Britain through a successful market settlement."

Mobile phones and devices are widely used in crime, but the forensic study of mobile devices is a relatively new field. A proliferation of smartphones and other digital devices has caused a growing demand for forensic examination.
