SEOUL -- Smilegate Megapor, a South Korean video game developer known for "CrossFire", the world's top online tactical FPS (first-person shooter) game,  acquired a major stake in the developer of Epic Seven, a mobile role-playing game (RPG).

Smilegate said Friday that it would buy 64 percent of Super Creative, which developed Epic Seve, an RPG in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Smilegate secured global service rights for Epic Seven, which adopts a turn-based battle system.

Epic Seven is a mobile turn-based RPG. The game was launched in South Korea in August 2018 and globally in November. The mobile game has gathered a strong fan base at home and abroad with cartoon-like graphics and unique stories of in-game characters.

"Based on the trust we have built through Epic Seven services, we have made important decisions that will be a new opportunity for growth for both companies," Smilegate president Jang In-a said. "Now that we have a foundation on which we can do our best for Epic Seven's global performance, we will make various attempts and challenges."
