Kang Daniel proves potential as solo artist by topping charts with debut song

SEOUL -- Kang Daniel, a former member of South Korea's defunct project boy band Wanna One, proved his potential as a solo artist with "What Are You Up To", the singer's solo debut song.

On Thursday, the 22-year-old released "color on me", his solo debut album including his debut track "What Are You Up To" and four other songs, and the title song topped the real-time song charts of major domestic online music services such as Naver, Mnet and Bugs.

The music video for "What Are You Up To" is also popular on YouTube, watched 2,302,586 times in less than 12 hours. Fans congratulated the singer for pursuing his dreams to become a solo singer.

"I came here even if i wasn't a stan of him just to give him the support so much respect he didn't give up on him dream," said "lolo mina", a YouTube user. Another user "eka jung" expressed her support: "Congratulation on your solo debut, Kang Daniel! This song is beautiful and chill!"

Kang, who successfully ended his career with Wanna One in January, originally planned to debut as a solo artist in the first half of 2019, but his debut was delayed due to a legal dispute between him and his former agency. He later established his one-man agency KONNECT Entertainment.
