British singer Anne-Marie wins praise from S. Korean fans for impromptu show

SEOUL --  Anne-Marie Rose Nicholson, a British singer and songwriter, won praise from South Korean fans for her kindness and showmanship after she went ahead with a free impromptu show to console the hearts of people who saw her original concert being scrapped by local organizers due to torrential rain.

At 9:00 p.m. (1200 GMT) Sunday, the 28-year-old singer was to perform at Holiday Land Festival, a music festival, at Paradise City, a luxury casino and hotel near Incheon International Airport west of Seoul, but organizers it due to heavy rain and safety.

"I don't really know what's going on, but I've been told that the stage I was performing on is structurally unsafe so I'm not going to be able to go on," Anne-Marie said in an urgent tweet titled at 9:37 p.m. She expressed disappointment and frustration by saying, "I'm not allowed to go on, and I'm so sorry. I'm so annoyed, and I'm just gonna cry in my room the whole night."

Thousands of fans shared her tweet and left comments to appease her. "You have to make sure that ur safety comes first so everyone completely understands! We love u," said "JODIE", a Twitter user. 

At 10:45 p.m.., when fans from South Korea and other countries were trying to make each other feel better through social media posts, the singer suddenly broke her silence with an unexpected post: "To my Korean fans, I did not cancel the show. Please spread the word. No tickets needed. Everyone welcome."

Words spread over the internet fast as fans shared news of the impromptu concert in the hotel and praised her. "I really love the way she thinks. Also her voice is just beautiful," said "Happysoccer", a user from South Korean online community Clien. Another user "kioskyle" said: "Her songs are great. Her personality is also awesome. I love the way how she smiles all the time."

She later said in her Instagram post that organizers had insisted that she would have to sign an agreement to assume responsibility "for the deaths of people if the stage broke."

The impromptu concert was attended by hundreds of fans. On stage, she apologized and shed tears, broadcast live through Instagram Live, which allowed followers to share a live video. She left an emotional post reading "It's been an emotional day."

Anne-Marie released her debut album in 2015 after pursuing her career in music by featuring in other artists' songs as a guest artist.
