SEOUL -- LG Electronics is set to release "V50S ThinQ", a 5G flagship smartphone with a dual-screen accessory, in October as Galaxy Fold", a foldable smartphone produced by Samsung Electronics received a favorable initial response from consumers.

V50S was showcased at Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA), an annual electronics fair in Berlin in early October. LG's 5G smartphone targets the niche market of global users who favor multitasking simultaneously.

LG said in a statement Tuesday that it would receive applications from testers from Friday until October 3. A total of 300 testers would be given V50S phones and dual-screen accessories.

"We will arrange various opportunities for consumers so that they can personally experience the wide range of applications and high practicality of LG's dual-screen," LG's mobile marketing director Oh Seung-jin was quoted as saying. V50S' predecessor, V50, was released in February this year, drawing positive feedback from tech-savvy consumers.

The dual-screen is a folder case with a 6.2-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display, allowing users to do multiple things simultaneously such as watching a YouTube video on the main display while playing a game on the second screen. Some consumers who cast doubt about the durability of foldable phones have hailed LG's dual-screen accessory.

V50S will be cheaper than V50, which came with a price tag of 1,199,000 won ($1,003). LG has not yet disclosed the exact price of its new phone.

Samsung has mesmerized consumers who are eager to get their hands on Galaxy Fold, priced at 2,398,000 won, which has been sold out quickly through a series of pre-orders in early September.
