SEOUL -- LG Electronics, a major home appliance maker in South Korea, has filed a lawsuit with a district court in California against Hisense, claiming TV products sold by the Chinese appliance and electronics manufacturer in the United States infringed on patents.

LG said on Tuesday that it has filed a suit for TV-related patent infringement and damages. Hisense, headquartered in Qingdao, Shandong province, is a state-owned enterprise which manufacturing facilities in China and other countries. LG accused Hisense of maintaining an insincere attitude despite repeated requests for the suspension of patent infringement and a resolution through negotiations.

The lawsuit is about four patents held by LG, including technologies that implement a convenient TV environment such as user interface (UI) and data transmission speed based on Wi-Fi.

"LG Electronics will strongly respond to the unfair use of its patents to actively protect intellectual property rights," said Jeon Saeng-gyu, executive vice president of LG's intellectual property center.

In September, LG filed a patent suit in Germany against the electronics and home appliances division of KOC Holding AS, a top industrial conglomerate in Turkey, over the unauthorized use of ice-making technology adopted for two-door refrigerators. Arçelik A.Ş. and two affiliates, Beko and Grundig, which sell home appliances in Europe, were sued for violating LG's patent.
