LAS VEGAS -- In a bid to compete with rivals in the infotainment market, LG Electronics strengthened its partnership with Luxoft, a Swiss-based software company, to develop upgraded automotive solutions including digital cockpits.

A joint venture to be established by LG and Luxoft in Santa Clara, California, in the first half of the year, will develop digital cockpits based on a Linux-based operating system for self-driving cars, rear-seat entertainment systems and smart mobility services.

"The establishment of the joint venture will serve as an opportunity to strengthen the webOS ecology," LG Electronics President Park Il-pyung said, adding the joint venture would create new customer values through an in-vehicle infotainment platform called "webOS Auto"

The in-vehicle infotainment market is rapidly growing thanks to the widespread adoption of infotainment systems by carmakers.
