SEOUL -- Daniel Henney, a Korean-American actor and model who is popular in South Korea, has issued a warning against online imposters who are suspected of luring fans to send money using his name through social media.

"Recently, we received reports about cases of damage caused by people impersonating Daniel Henney or a related official who demanded money online," Echo Global Group, the 40-year-old's agency, said in a statement on Friday. Echo said that imposters have communicated with people using direct messaging systems on social media to demand money.

The agency said that Henney does not operate any social media accounts other than his official ones and he would never ask for money from fans under any circumstances. "Fans should be extra cautious not to get victimized," Echo said.

Henney debuted in South Korea by appearing in a hit drama "My Name is Kim Sam-soon" in 2005. He was awarded the Grand Bell as the best new actor for "My Father" in 2008. He also appeared in an American hit drama "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders".
