South Korea‘s online game developing giant NCsoft Corp. posted a 45.9 percent drop in fourth-quarter earnings derived by higher costs and the absence of new game titles.

Net profit reached 37.87 billion won (US$34.12 million) in the October-December period last year, compared with 70.02 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Meanwhile, NCsoft has been recently tabbed as the owner of a new professional KBO baseball team and got media spotlights.

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said Tuesday that it gave the pre-approval to the company to begin work on founding the ninth club in the top-division baseball league in South Korea.

The new team would be based in Chanwon, South Gyeongsang Province, about 400 kilometers south from Seoul and could join the KBO as early as 2013, media reported.
