Nonghyup under Probe for Online Total Breakdown

Financial watchdog on Wednesday has launched a probe into the National Agricultural Cooperation (Nonghyup) in South Korea, which suffered a significant problem with in its online bank transaction systems.

Nonghyup has seen its network systems, including internet banking and automated teller machines; break down since around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Korea Herald reported.
The financial Supervisory Service dispatched a team of inspectors to the company headquarter and its cyber service computer department in Seoul to find out what caused the serious problem.

While many people speculated that the breakdown was possibly due to cyber-attack, an FSS expressed that the nothing has been finalized for its cause.

It said the investigation will be focused on uncovering the cause and factors for the breakdown, customers’ damage and etc.

However, Nonghyup officials said it could be a just online server’s fault.

The incident came as Hyundai Capital was hacked and blackmailed for its customer’s data base leakage.
