Hankook Tire Co., South Korea's largest tire maker, will set up a plant in the U.S state of Tennessee, a U.S. auto industry official said Wednesday, according to a news report.

The official, asking to remain anonymous, said that Hankook Tire plans to build the plant near Nashville in Tennessee, Yonhap news agency said.

Executives of Hankook Tire are scheduled to visit Tennessee early next week to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. state, he was quoted as saying.

Hankook Tire made the decision as Nissan, Volkswagen and GM plan to operate production lines or make large-scale investment there, the report said.

The plant, if built, will be capable of producing 10 million tires per year, it said.
